Why supervision matters

Supervision is an essential part of ethical, sustainable therapy practice - whether you’re newly qualified, still in training, or decades into your career.

I offer professional counselling supervision across Ireland, working with psychotherapists, counsellors, trainees and private practitioners to create a space that supports both your clinical work and your growth as a therapist.

Through therapy supervision, you can:

  • Reflect on client work in a supportive, confidential space

  • Prevent burnout and maintain emotional resilience

  • Explore ethical issues and navigate professional boundaries

  • Gain perspective on challenging dynamics in your practice

  • Deepen self-awareness and develop your therapeutic style

Whether you’re looking for clinical supervision in Ireland, online supervision for student therapists, or a qualified IACP-accredited supervisor, this is a space where your work -  and wellbeing - are held with care.

My approach to therapy supervision

Supervision should be a space where you feel safe, respected, and thoughtfully challenged. Whether you’re a student counsellor, newly qualified therapist, or seasoned practitioner, I take a collaborative approach - one grounded in curiosity, mutual respect, and ethical reflection.

As an accredited clinical supervisor in Ireland, my role isn’t to give you all the answers - it’s to help you slow down, think things through, and grow your confidence as a therapist.

With this in mind, I ensure my approach is always:

Relational: a space built on trust, open discussion, and mutual learning.

Integrative: drawing from multiple therapeutic models to support your individual approach.

Practical & reflective: offering both concrete strategies and deeper exploration of your work.

Ethically grounded: ensuring best practice while supporting your personal and professional growth.

Whether you’re seeking supervision for private practice, therapy supervision as a trainee, or simply want to deepen your work with clients, I offer a thoughtful, collaborative space where you can bring whatever’s coming up - in the therapy room or beyond.

What to expect in supervision

Starting supervision is an important step - whether you’re just beginning as a trainee therapist or have been practising for years. Here’s how the process works:

1. Introductory call

A relaxed, no-obligation chat to explore whether we’re a good fit. We’ll talk through your needs, where you are in your practice or training, and what you’re looking for in a supervisor.

2. First session

If we decide to move forward, your first session will be a gentle introduction to the space. We’ll clarify expectations, look at any requirements from your training body (e.g. IACP), and begin to explore the work together.

3. Ongoing supervision

We’ll meet regularly - either online or in-person - to reflect on your client work, explore challenges, support your development, and ensure ethical, effective practice. Sessions are collaborative, supportive, and tailored to your evolving needs.

What guides my supervision practice

Supervision is not just a practical requirement - it’s a professional and ethical responsibility. My approach aligns fully with the IACP Code of Ethics and Practice for Supervisors, which provides a robust framework for safe, effective supervision.

Below, I’ve summarised the key principles that guide how I support therapists, trainees, and counsellors in private practice.

Respect and integrity

I treat supervisees with respect, honesty and fairness - acknowledging the complexity and emotional labour of therapeutic work.

Confidentiality and boundaries

I uphold clear and appropriate boundaries, while protecting the confidentiality of both supervisees and their clients in line with professional standards.

Clinical responsibility

I support ethical decision-making and good clinical judgement, while maintaining awareness of my own accountability as an accredited supervisor.

Competence and continued learning

I am committed to my own development as a supervisor and therapist, and I expect supervisees to take responsibility for their professional growth too.

Clear supervision agreements

We’ll establish a written supervision contract that covers frequency, structure, goals, ethical frameworks, and the boundaries of confidentiality.

Supporting diverse contexts

Whether you work online, in private practice, or in a clinical setting, I aim to offer supervision that’s relevant, respectful, and culturally informed.

You can find the full IACP Code of Ethics and Practice for Supervisors here. If you have questions about how this applies to your work or accreditation needs, feel free to ask.

FAQs

Find answers to common questions about supervision and how we might work together.

What is clinical supervision in counselling and psychotherapy?

Clinical supervision is a professional, supportive space where therapists can reflect on their work, discuss challenges, and receive guidance. It’s a requirement for accredited membership with bodies like the IACP, and it supports ethical, effective practice.

Do you offer supervision for therapy students or trainee counsellors?

Yes - I provide supervision for student therapists and those in training. Whether you’re on placement or working toward accreditation, I offer structured, supportive sessions tailored to your stage of development.

Can I attend supervision online?

Absolutely. I offer online supervision for therapists across Ireland using secure, confidential video sessions. This is ideal if you’re based remotely or balancing a busy schedule.

What models of supervision do you use?

My approach is integrative and collaborative. I draw on person-centred, developmental, and reflective models of supervision, adapting to the needs of each supervisee. We’ll work together to find what best supports your practice.

Do you offer supervision for private practice therapists?

Yes. I support both newly qualified and experienced therapists working in private practice. Sessions can focus on clinical work, ethical dilemmas, client dynamics, and the challenges of working independently.

Are you an accredited clinical supervisor?

Yes - I hold a Diploma in Integrative Supervision (IICP) and am a fully accredited supervisor recognised by the IACP. I meet all the professional and ethical requirements to support therapists in training and in practice.
